The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)launched the Mental Health Campaing for Mental Health Recovery to encourage, educate and inspire people between 18 and 25 to support their friends who are experiencing mental health problems. < Read more. >

BeST Center to Host CBT Workshop in August

The Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center Department of Psychiatry Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM) will host a workshop on High-Yield Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Techniques for Persons with Psychosis on 8/12/10 and 8/13/10. This workshop is designed for psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, case managers or any mental health professional who works with a large population of individuals with psychotic illnesses. < Read more >


Summit for Kids Coming In August

This year will mark the inaugural Summit County Summit for Children, which will be a two-day event on August 20 and August 21, 2010. A professional symposium and a luncheon with a guest speaker will be on August 20, 2010. The Summit for Kids, a Family Expo, where free school supplies will be given to children in attendance, will be on August 21, 2010. < Read more >


Celebration Recovery Scheduled for September 11, 2010

Celebration Recovery, the annual recognition event for people in recovery from mental illness is scheduled for Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Community Support Services, 150 Cross St., Akron. < Read more >


ADM Board Welcomes New Staff

The ADM Board welcomed new staff member, Chris Freeman-Clark MPA, LISW-S, as the Coordinator of Forensic Services last month. In this position, Chris will be working closely with the criminal justice system to monitor treatment, progress and compliance with court orders of clients on forensic status in Summit County. This includes attending court hearings, advocating for the client and/or the mental health system and providing consultation to judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys and other court staff regarding mental health laws. < Read more >


Schizophrenia Awareness Week Events Planned May 16-22, 2010

Schizophrenia Awareness Week, an international observance designed to raise community awareness of schizophrenia and psychotic illnesses, will be held May 16-22. Planning committee members hope to raise awareness and help people understand that, with the right treatment, people with schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses can and do get better -- and that effective treatment programs for schizophrenia spectrum disorders are available in their communities. < For More Information >

Summit County Community Partnership is sponsoring a conference on prescription drug abuse on Wednesday, December 2, 2009.

This conference, RX Drug Abuse: A Community Responds, will highlight prescription abuse in Summit County, what is being done about it and what can be done. ADM Board Honors Four Trailblazers at Appreciation Luncheon

In 2007, the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADM) Services Board established awards in honor of five individuals who are recognized as being trailblazers and advocates in the mental health and addiction services field. This award process is intended not only to honor the original honorees which included Drs. Fred and Penny Frese, Maggie Carroll Smith, Sr. Mary Ignatia and Dr. Bob Smith, but also to provide a forum to recognize individuals who emulate their example and service. < To read more click here. >
