Summit County ADM Board Completes Policy Governance Training
BACK TO NEWS STORIES
The Board of Directors of the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADM) Services Board completed training on the Policy Governance® model after their monthly meeting on 7/28/09. Mr. Eric Craymer, of Growth Management Consulting, Inc., provided the three hour overview session.
The Policy Governance® model was developed by John Carver and is a registered trademark of Carver Governance Design. The model facilitates the accomplishment of board-established goals through a purpose driven operational process. The model defines the purpose of a governing board’s job, the “owners” they represent, the processes used to determine desired ends and how performance will be monitored. While the emphasis is on achieving the ends that matter most, the model also describes methods by which the organization avoids means that are unacceptable.
David E. Martin, ADM Board President, comments on the model, “I enjoyed learning about the Policy Governance® model and feel that it would be a helpful tool to enhance the impact we have in our community. I particularly appreciate the focus on achieving the results we want for people and how those we represent will benefit. I look forward to learning more.”
