Summit County Community Partnership is sponsoring a conference on prescription drug abuse on Wednesday, December 2, 2009.

BACK TO NEWS STORIES

This conference, RX Drug Abuse: A Community Responds, will highlight prescription abuse in Summit County, what is being done about it and what can be done. If you want to decrease prescription drug abuse, dispose of drugs in an environmentally friendly way and support medication access for those who can least afford their meds, you should attend this conference.

A Summit County Community Partnership survey finds that 13% of county youth found prescription drug use not harmful and used prescription drugs once or more in the past 30 days.  These figures demonstrate the need for this conference.

This  conference reviews local programs that address prescription drug abuse by collecting prescription drugs, distributing them to persons in need while destroying the remaining meds in an effort to decrease access to these meds by young people and limit environmental pollution.

This program features a local pharmacist, a police detective, an environmental expert and a person who has experienced the effects of prescription drug abuse. This program highlights efforts to collect and dispose of drugs and proposes ways to expand these efforts.

Registration deadline is 11/20/09. To access a conference brochure, click here.
