Emergency & Crisis Stabilization Services
Portage Path Behavioral Health is the ADM System’s designated provider of emergency and crisis stabilization services, and manages admissions to the state hospital in the absence of other appropriate options. The agency carries out its responsibility to assess needs and make appropriate referrals through a seven-days-a-week, 24-hour-a-day Psychiatric Emergency Services Unit (PES), which encompasses an array of services to those in crisis or seeking emergency psychiatric services.

SUPPORT is a mental health telephone crisis service staffed by both mental health professionals and trained volunteers. Services are available 24-hours-a-day for individuals with mental health emergencies or callers seeking information.

Crisis Intervention Services
This service provides assessment and pre-hospital screening through a program known as Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES). PES provides emergency evaluations 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. Individuals arriving at PES are seen by a clinician, then by a psychiatrist, who work together to gather information, provide therapy, and prescribe medication when necessary. Patients are then referred to the proper inpatient, outpatient, or specialized service provider. PES is NOT a medical emergency facility, but their proximity to area hospitals allows ready access to physical care.

Crisis Stabilization
The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a sixteen (16) bed unit which provides a structured, short-term residential environment where individuals are voluntarily monitored and treated according to individual need. The goal of CSU is to manage the crisis in the most effective manner, then refer the individual for follow-up treatment services.

Intake and Referral
The Summit County ADM system has a single point of entry for intake, assessment, and referral services: the Summit County Adult Admissions Department. The Admissions Department is staffed by Portage Path Behavioral Health (PPBH) and Community Support Services (CSS). Individuals receive a diagnostic assessment and a referral for appropriate services.

Diagnostic Assessment
A diagnostic assessment is a clinical evaluation provided by a qualified professional in order to assess client needs and functioning, determine appropriate service / treatment based on identification of the presenting problem, evaluation of mental status and formulation of a diagnostic impression. The outcome of the assessment is diagnosis and recommendations of appropriate services/treatment and / or the need for further assessment. Maybe we can put a statement somewhere about the fact that our agencies have specialized co-occurring treatment programs, or that they are able to meet this need.

Behavioral Health Counseling and Therapy
Counseling and therapy services are provided by licensed clinicians. Treatment is of varied duration and uses individualized treatment plans. Group Counseling consists of a series of structured sessions that work toward the attainment of mutually defined goals.

Pharmacological Management
Pharmacological Management services are provided by psychiatrists and advance practice nurses. These services include diagnosis and treatment, prescribing medication, on-going monitoring, and health screening.

Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment
Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (CPST) is intended to assist the client in overcoming barriers and reducing the symptoms of mental illness in order to restore the individual’s functioning to the highest level possible. CPST supports the individual’s ability to take responsibility for managing his/her mental illness and achieving and maintaining his/her rehabilitative and / or recovery goals.

FIRST Episode Program
This specialty program provides early identification and treatment of individuals experiencing first episode psychosis between the ages of 15 and 40. Child Guidance & Family Solutions, in collaboration with Community Support Services and Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) provides resiliency training, medication management, individual counseling, CPST and family education. The program goals are to improve employment / employability, reduce hospitalizations, complete educational goals, and decrease substance use and legal involvement.

Residential Treatment Services
Residential treatment is staffed by clinical and paraprofessional staff around the clock. All of these programs provide support and training to emphasize development of social skills, independent living skills, and symptom management. Lengths of stay are individualized, based on the participant’s needs and continued progress.

Respite Services
The Tarry House, Inc. Respite Program is a short-term transitional service providing room and board and para-professional staff support to Summit County residents with mental illness currently living in the community and at risk of becoming homeless. This service also provides family respite, freeing family members or significant others from care-giving responsibilities for limited time periods to attend to other family or personal matters.

Homeless Outreach
This program provides street and community outreach to individuals who are homeless or at risk for homelessness who are experiencing symptoms suggestive of serious mental illnesses and/or addictions but not currently engaged in treatment services. The Alphonso Turner Homeless Outreach Center is a drop in center that offers comfortable seating, showers, laundry facilities and a telephone to individuals who are homeless. The Outreach program uses Critical Time Intervention, an evidence based engagement program, to engage individuals into treatment.

Partial hospitalization provides an intensive, comprehensive, structured goal oriented treatment service for persons struggling with an acute period of difficulty.
