Akron Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron - Psychiatric Intake Response Center (PIRC)
The Psychiatric Intake Response Center (PIRC) answers questions from family members or other adults associated with children or adolescents experiencing emotional and behavioral health problems. In addition, PIRC staff conducts preliminary risk assessments for children and adolescents in crisis who are considered to be high risk. PIRC is available 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week and can be reached at 330-543-7472 or toll-free 1-866-443-7472

Counseling and therapy services are provided by licensed clinicians. Treatment is of varied duration and uses individualized treatment plans.

Pharmacological Management services are provided by psychiatrists and advance practice nurses. Services include diagnosis and treatment, prescribing medication, on-going monitoring, and health screening.

Intensive Home Based Therapy provides tailored counseling, community support services and crisis assistance to children and families experiencing a level of mental illness related distress that makes family disruption or placement of a child outside the home an imminent possibility. Immediate access to service at all times and multiple contacts per week are important aspects of this level of care.

This specialty program provides early identification and treatment of individuals experiencing first episode psychosis between the ages of 15 and 40. The collaborative program partners Child Guidance & Family Solutions with Community Support Services and Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) to support resiliency training, medication management, individual counseling, CPST and family education. The program goals are to improve employment / employability, reduce hospitalizations, complete educational goals, and decrease substance use and legal involvement.
